Horns, bass, call-and-response vocals and a whole band dancing in sync: the Ghanaian collective Santrofi is coming to A-Huset!
Santrofi grew out of a love for highlife, the joyful, horn-driven dance music its members grew up with in Ghana. Led by producer and bassist Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori, the seven-piece band is on a mission to bring highlife into a new era. Their live shows are famous for tight grooves, jazzy horns and their own choreography. As The Guardian put it about their debut album Alewa: “the playing remains immaculate.”
Their new album, Making Moves, was recorded and mixed by Grammy winner Jerry Boys. It honours their roots while pointing to the future of highlife, mixing funky dancefloor tracks with soulful songs about life. The band members have worked with artists such as Black Sherif, Kidi, Yaw Tog and AratheJay. Santrofi has also played Roskilde Festival, where the show got 5/6 from POV International and 4/6 from GAFFA.
